Countdown to the 85th Anniversary of Repeal Day with Title No 21 Whiskey

By | Mixology News

It’s Just Five Days Until Repeal Day!

Join in the celebration with Title No 21 Whiskey and Chilled Magazine as we count down to the 85th anniversary of the Repeal of Prohibition. We will be sharing recipe ideas on ChilledMagazine.com and encourage you to share your own Repeal Day cocktail pics and recipes on Instagram @TitleNo21.

On December 5, 1933, the 21st Amendment to the United States Constitution repealed all prohibition on alcohol, setting the American spirit free (again). Title No 21 Whiskey derives its name after this amendment (which repealed the 18th Amendment), ending the 13-year Prohibition era. The aptly named spirit inspires a message from the past to the future celebrating small-batch whiskey.

Title No 21’s bottle and label represent the freedom of that moment up until now; interpreted as Constitutional freedoms allowing us to do everything from honing our whiskey-making craft to freely drinking in bars, and being whoever we want to be.

So raise a glass and toast with us on December 5, 2018 to the 21st Amendment, which gave us back our rights to drink, sell, and make whiskey.

Mix up this riff on the Old Fashioned classic cocktail to get a proper Repeal Day celebration started.

7 Must Mix Pumpkin Cocktails for the End of Fall Season

By | Mixology News

Pumpkin Spiced Latte, cocktail with garnish on table, featured image

Autumn is something of a stereotype. Crisp winds whipping up the fallen leaves, the scent of cinnamon and cloves in the air, colors fading from green to red, yellow, and orange.

But then, stereotypes are just that because they are so often true. And, admit it, that moment when summer tumbles into fall is truly magical. Making it all the more delicious are the flavors of the season—vanilla, apples, and pumpkin.

Brittany Fox, mixologist at the Mount Airy Casino Resort’s Bistecca by Il Mulino, adores this time of year for all the bibulous inspiration. Her Spiced Pumpkin Martini is a perfect example of seasonal flavors. At the center of the drink is the house made, spiced, pumpkin syrup with the addition of cream, adding a decadent mouth feel.

“It’s fun, it’s fresh, and celebrates the season. This embraces autumn in the mountains and is perfect next to the fire on a cool autumn night. Let the pumpkin shine, don’t overcomplicate the cocktail, and let it do the work.”
– Brittany Fox

As for the holiday squash itself, it should always be the centerpiece of the drink.

Woodford Reserve Releases New Expression for its Bottled in Bond Distillery Series

By | Mixology News

Bottled in Bond Distillery Series, featured image, white background

Woodford Reserve has released a new expression as part of its annual Distillery Series, Bottled in Bond.

The Bottled in Bond Act of 1897 requires whiskey to be produced by one distiller at the same distillery within one 6-month distillation “season.” The product must be aged for at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse at 100 proof.

“Given the historical nature of our distillery—a National Historic Landmark—it is only appropriate that one of the oldest distilleries in the country releases an expression in the oldest federal designation for bourbon.”
– Chris Morris, Master Distiller

Bottled in Bond Distillery Series, bottle on white

Bottled in Bond Distillery Series

Morris created the Distillery Series to highlight Woodford Reserve’s creative line of complex offerings and to showcase the brand’s commitment to innovation and premium craftsmanship. There are three annual releases of the distillery series.

Tasting Notes

Color: Honey topaz.

Aroma: A complex medley of tropical fruit, apple and grape brandy with subtle notes of a nutty graham cracker crust drizzled with honey and toasted coconut sprinkles.

Taste: Tart green apple pie, with a graham cracker crust spiced with a dash of cinnamon. Poached pear and floral notes round out the palate.

Finish: A dry apple peel sweet sweetness lingers on.

This expression is available at the Woodford Reserve Distillery and select Kentucky retailers at 90.4 proof for a suggested retail price of $49.99 for a 375 ml bottle.

The Last Drop Distillers Releases Very Rare 1982 Bourbon

By | Mixology News

The Last Drop 1982 Bourbon, bottles on barrel, featured image

In Partnership with the Iconic Buffalo Trace Distillery, a 1982 Bourbon Joins the World’s Most Exclusive Spirits Collection.

The Last Drop Distillers, the world renowned team of rare spirit hunters, is releasing a 1982 Bourbon from the award-winning Buffalo Trace Distillery—the company’s 13th release and its very first American Whiskey. With only 44 bottles in existence, 25 of which will make it to the U.S. market, this exceptional Bourbon is an exquisite representation of the Last Drop Distillers’ passion for discovering the rare, exceptional and delicious. The 1982 Bourbon is an opportunity for those to acquire not only an outstanding and unparalleled aged Bourbon, but also to discover the reasons why The Last Drop Distillers travels around the world searching for once-in-a-lifetime spirits and only offers the best of the best.

“We are tremendously excited to present the 1982 Bourbon, our second smallest release to date. With only 44 bottles worldwide, this is sure to become a collector’s item. The Bourbon is a wonderful spirit: deep and rounded, with delicious notes of dried fruit and honey. We only wish there was more to go around.”
– Rebecca Jago, Joint Managing Director of The Last Drop

Distilled four decades ago, this unique whiskey is the very last drop of this particular Bourbon from the Buffalo Trace Distillery. At its peak, it was removed from its American oak barrels to avoid over-ageing and to preserve its beautiful composition that gracefully defies its years. On the nose, a hint of marmalade married with coffee is accentuated by the palate of tropical richness and a finish of vanilla notes and oak.

Partnering with the Buffalo Trace Distillery to release this rare Bourbon was a seamless decision. Acquired by Sazerac in 2016, The Last Drop Distillers knew they had a partner on many levels, and this collaboration is one of many to come between the two parties. This is The Last Drop’s first release of an American Whiskey but certainly not the last. The fact that it hails from the world-famous Buffalo Trace Distillery is a point of pride for The Last Drop team. The distillery’s reputation for distilling world-class spirits was paramount to The Last Drop putting their seal of approval on this outstanding liquid.

“We have always admired The Last Drop’s dedication to sourcing the world’s rarest spirits and this launch comes as no exception. This Bourbon, distilled, aged and bottled at our very own Buffalo Trace Distillery, echoes the great relationship between Sazerac and The Last Drop and it is one we are looking forward to growing for many years to come.”
– Mark Brown, President and CEO of Sazerac

The Last Drop 1982 Bourbon, packaging display

The Last Drop 1982 Bourbon

Beyond this 1982 Bourbon release, The Last Drop Distillers and Sazerac are working together to change the future of aged American-crafted whiskies. The Last Drop is bringing controlled, low temperature long-term aging techniques to Kentucky with its just opened, experimental refrigerated Warehouse P at the Buffalo Trace distillery. By keeping their new Warehouse P at a consistent 45 °F year-round to slow the aging process, the Last Drop hopes to create delicious American Bourbons and Ryes older than any on the market, including their 1982 Bourbon, as the perfect addition to their luxury portfolio of aged international spirits.

The founding principle of The Last Drop Distillers is to bring exceptional and unique aged spirits and wines to aficionados and collectors from around the world with an affinity and respect for the finest drinks. A one-of-a-kind spirit, the 1982 Bourbon is a glimpse into the past, a reminder of the outstanding skill and artform of distillers and blenders from those years, and a tribute to what a magical time the 1980s were. In the same year the Bourbon was distilled, Michael Jackson’s Thriller was the biggest selling album, E.T hit the box office, Sony launched the world’s first CD player, and the Computer was named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year. In the years that followed, music tastes changed and so did technology, but The Last Drop’s 1982 Bourbon has remained untouched. It is an exquisite reminder of why some things should stay the same, from an era 40 years ago.

Founded by industry geniuses Tom Jago and James Espey in 2008, and now led by their talented daughters, Rebecca Jago and Beanie Geraedts-Espey, the Last Drop Distillers continues its quest to uncover, and bottle the world’s finest and rarest of spirits. As with all of The Last Drop releases, the 1982 Bourbon comes together with its signature 50ml miniature replica and pocket-sized tasting book with additional pages for personal tasting notes. Retailing for an MSRP of $4,000, The 1982 Bourbon will be available upon request at select Fine Spirits and Wine Merchants nationwide.

The Last Drop Distillers 1982 Bourbon

Buffalo Trace’s Master Blender, Drew Mayville, describes The Last Drop 1982 Bourbon tasting experience as:

Nose: The nose is nothing short of exquisite. Its seductive softness is accented by a rich toffee-like, honeyed vanilla, and candied ripe fruits with undertones of oak.

Taste: Sophisticated with an extraordinary richness and butteriness with layers of apple, pecans, ripened pear, dark Belgian chocolate, caramel and a kiss of black cherries.

Finish: This remarkable whiskey transitions to a memorable finish of dried dark fruit with delightful lingering oak. All the time knowing that you’re tasting history as you enjoy the last drops. This truly is a once in a lifetime taste experience.

MSRP: $4,000

To the taste, Lucky Lips has a strong oak presence, hints of vanilla, cinnamon, honey, and date. The beautiful golden hue and highly complex flavor is the result of a premium tequila aging in charred American White Oak whiskey barrels for eight years. This Extra Añejo is very limited, retails for $109.99, and is best served neat in an overture tequila glass or a snifter. Lucky Lips is available now in 24 states in the United States and at Suerte’s flagship restaurant and tasting room, El Conejo, located in Sayulita, Mexico.

Suerte Tequila is crafted from 100% Tahona-crushed blue weber agave that is slow roasted in brick ovens and double-distilled. The Reposado, Añejo and Extra Añejo are aged in charred American White Oak whiskey barrels for seven months, two years and eight years, respectively.

Founded in 2012 by two friends and tequila fans from Boulder, Colorado, who partnered with a master distiller in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, Suerte offers single-distillery tequilas produced with traditional methods. By slow-roasting and crushing agave with a tahona, Suerte creates four unique, award-winning tequilas: Blanco, Reposado, Añejo and Extra Añejo.
