Angostura Cocoa Bitters Brings New Depth To Classic Cocktails

Spiced Cocoa, bottle and cocktail on bar, cocoa beans, featured image

When Angostura launched the newest addition to its bitters line, Cocoa Bitters, it was clear it would be a game-changer in the cocktail world.

Just under three months after the launch, the new flavor has already made a huge impact on the cocktail quality of both professional and at-home bartenders.

Angostura’s Bitters Lineup

In case you missed the launch, the third flavor in the collection is crafted with Trinitario Cocoa, a high-quality cocoa hybrid grown on the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. The deep, rich cocoa notes join forces with perfectly balanced botanicals and spices to create a unique and dynamic flavor profile. A trained nose will find that along with warm and nutty cocoa, there are undertones of floral and citrus. The end result is a complex bitters that works well in endless drink combinations. That said, Angostura Cocoa Bitters complements sweet vermouth and aged spirits such as whiskey, tequila, brandy, rum and cognac particularly well.

To celebrate the versatility and quality of the new bitters, Angostura teamed up with top industry pros, Elliott Clark of Apartment Bartender and Greg Titian of How2Drink, to try their hand at creative cool-weather cocktails featuring cocoa bitters. They developed delicious custom recipes highlighting the new flavor:

The Perfect Beer to Pair with Left Over Halloween Candy

By | Mixology News

Allagash White, glass and bottle on wood table, featured image

Just because adults are too old for trick or treating on Halloween, that doesn’t stop the temptation of sneaking a chocolate bar or two from the left-over candy bowl.

While we can’t go door-to-door asking for candy, adults can enjoy a cold one at the end of Halloween night. When the kids go to bed and it’s time to relax, pair your favorite candy with one of these beers for the perfect combination.

Mother Earth Cali Creamin Ale pairs great with left-over candy corn. Candy corn is high in sugar so a low-hopped cream ale will chase it down smooth. A cream ales slightly fruity notes will enhance the honey flavor in candy corn.

Zero Gravity Oktoberfest will complement the richness of a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. With just a touch of hops, the lager will bring out the salty flavor of the peanut butter. It’ll be reminiscent of eating a brazen at an Oktoberfest Feast.

With creamy milk chocolate and smooth caramel, Twix bars enjoyed with a wheat beer like Allagash White will bring out the oat-like flavor of the drink. The banana and clove notes in wheat beer bring out the shortbread flavors in Twix bars.

Chocolate and raspberry have always been a great pairing. Wash down those Hersey Chocolate Bars with a 10 Barrel Raspberry Sour Crush. The crisp and refreshing beer will contrast with the bitterness of chocolate. That’s why fruit and chocolate pairings are so popular.

Bring those Tootsie Rolls to the next level by having them with a barley wine beer. Firestone Walker Sucaba Barrel Aged Barley Wine has hints of dark chocolate and vanilla, that welcome the richness of the candy. Tootsie Rolls will balance the biscuit notes of the ale.

Milk Duds are a Halloween staple. They provide that perfect chocolate and caramel pairing that will make you come back for more. Enjoy a Dry Dock Amber Ale with those little chewy treats. The bitterness of the amber ale will balance out the sweetness of the Milk Dud.

While Dots may be looked at as the most unwanted candy in the Halloween basket, you’re more than likely going to get a few on Halloween. Don’t worry, the chewy fruit pillows go great with an IPA. New Belgium Voodoo Ranger Juicy Haze IPA has a creamy and hoppy finish that will pair perfectly with the gumdrop candy.

Introducing part seven of the Seven Deadly LeSins – Vanity with LeSin Vodka.

This seven-part series will bring you 14 totally unique recipes brought together by Chilled 100 Ambassadors and the LeSin team.

LeSin Vodka teamed up with the Chilled 100 to get creative and give back to bartenders with their Seven Deadly LeSins cocktail program. The brand put together a program to not only put much-needed funds directly in the hands of bartenders, but to create unique recipes for both professionals and home enthusiasts to try.

Charles Vaughn, Founder of LeSin, explained, “We challenged the talented LeSin teams and Chilled 100 Ambassadors to create something new and amazing that you can look forward to when the world re-opens (and it will), and also something sure to impress your friends when you entertain at home during these different times. We felt this LEVEL UP was something in between on-premise and off-premise, so we called it HOME-PREMISE.”

Vaughn added that the program was about how to do more than just make a cocktail; it was about finding a way to infuse each recipe with energy. After all, when you go out for a night of drinking, there’s so much more to the experience than just what you’re drinking.

Bartender Keith Bracwell was challenged to create a cocktail inspired by the theme of Vanity and the color Purple.

Responsibility.org, founded in 1991, is a non-profit, independent, and national organization that is funded by distillers to eliminate drunk and impaired driving. They also want to eliminate underage drinking and empower adults to make responsible alcohol choices as part of a balanced lifestyle.

Founded in 2010, Ole Smoky became Tennessee’s first Legal Moonshine Distillery. Their roots go back to early settlers of the Smoky Mountains, where they craft their Moonshine & Whiskey spirits with care and pride.

While Responsibility.org can’t take full credit, drunk driving fatalities have decreased 34% since 1991 and lifetime alcohol consumption among our nation’s youth has decreased 48%. With the help of their members, they have played a role in helping to reach these historic low levels.

“Ole Smoky believes responsibility starts with each of us, and we are honored to join Responsibility.org’s membership of spirits producers who are united in their commitment to responsibility efforts,” said Robert Hall, CEO, Ole Smoky Distillery. “Today, we use our voice to encourage adults who wish to enjoy our products, to do so responsibly and safely, and the decision to join forces with Responsibility.org underscores the dedication of our organization and employees to continue advancing progress on these critical issues.”
