We asked Brad Why Brands should enter The Chilled 100 Spirits Awards:

Why are Spirits Awards useful to bartenders?

Constantly being bombarded with new bottlings and producers, I’m usually overwhelmed with options to choose from. I ideally look to other bartenders who are intimately familiar with the nuances of each bottle. I trust my fellow bartenders to know what’s good vs great!

What are the benefits to spirits brands to enter?

The Spirits Awards allows brands to put their bottlings in the hands of the very best bartenders from around the country. The talent chosen to judge and rate these bottles represent the diversity of the American bar market.

What should other bartenders know about the Bartender Seal of Approval?

The Bartender Seal of Approval is no bullshit. We are normal bartenders just like you. We weren’t paid for by the brands, so our opinion is just our opinion. We look for the best because we like to bartend with the best spirits.

What should spirit brands know about the Bartender Seal of Approval?

We, judges, are committed to quality, truth, and drinking good things. We will tell you our humble opinion, good, bad, or otherwise.

Ruby Splash

Created by Michael Montez – California

I love the beach and always enjoy a bright flavorful citrusy cocktail while in the sun. What better way than an explosion of citrus flavors combining with the tartness and sweetness of a raspberry syrup! The grapefruit vodka adds such a flavorful level that the balance in the cocktail becomes a must have at the beach! This cocktail has a punch of grapefruit upfront with a tart sweet finish. I just love fresh bright cocktails! This might be a new item on my menu!

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Deep Eddy Ruby Red Grapefruit Vodka
  • 3/4 oz Raspberry Syrup*
  •
3/4 oz Lemon Juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1/2 oz Triple Sec

Preparation: Shake all ingredients together and strain into a double Old Fashioned glass over ice. Garnish with fresh raspberries. *Raspberry Syrup: Muddle raspberries with simple syrup if not available.

Ruby Red Kiwi Kiss

Created by Bryan Whitakee – Washington

I wanted to create something to pair well with the fresh grapefruit flavor in Deep Eddy Grapefruit Vodka, and I thought kiwi would do just that. Toying with the recipe, I wanted something easy yet delicious to make poolside for a group of friends or for myself. I wanted to use easy-to-source ingredients that you can find almost anywhere with minimal prep work and without custom or hard-to-find tinctures and ingredients that may be out-of-reach for many at-home bartenders.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz Deep Eddy Ruby Red Grapefruit Vodka
  • 1/2 oz St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur
  • 3 Medium Kiwi Slices
1 oz Simple Syrup
  • 1/2 oz Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice
  • 2-3 oz Club Soda
Mint and kiwi slice (for garnish)

Preparation: Peel and slice half a kiwi, muddle in a cocktail shaker. Add all ingredients except club soda. Shake with ice. Open pour all ingredients into a Collins glass. Top with club soda and garnish with Kiwi wheel (unpeeled) and mint sprig.

El Flamingo del Diablo

Created by Dennis Bonifer – Kentucky

I love spicy cocktails, especially on a warm summer day! Infusing flavors into simple syrup is an easy way to create something extraordinary. One of my favorite combinations with grapefruit is rosemary. After a bit of research and experimenting I discovered that red pepper is another complementary flavor to grapefruit. By adding red pepper to the simple syrup, it’s a great way to get that sweet heat that is so, so good with the tartness of the grapefruit. The color reminded me of a flamingo and with that hit of spice the El Flamingo del Diablo (aka the Devil’s Flamingo) was born!

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. Deep Eddy Ruby Red Grapefruit Vodka
  • 1 oz. Fresh-squeeze Grapefruit Juice
  • 1 oz. Diablo syrup*
  • Soda water

Preparation: Add ingredients to a shaker with ice. Shake it like you mean it. Pour into an Old Fashioned glass with ice and top with soda water. If you want to kick it up a notch, replace the soda water with Deep Eddy Grapefruit Vodka Soda. Find a pool, beach, lake or your happy spot, kick back and enjoy the sweet heat of El Flamingo del Diablo. Garnish with quarter slice of a grapefruit.

*Diablo Syrup

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Water
  • 3 Sprigs Rosemary
  • 1 Tbsp. red pepper flakes

Preparation: Make the Diablo syrup by combining ingredients in a small sauce pan over medium low heat. Stir until sugar dissolves. Allow rosemary and red pepper flakes to simmer for an additional 15-20 minutes. The longer the simmer, the more intense the flavor (and the hEAT). Remove from heat and let it rest until cool approx. 30 minutes. Strained cooled liquid into a container and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

The Chilled 100 Spirits Awards Deadline has been extended to May 31st. Enter HERE

We asked Brad Why Brands should enter The Chilled 100 Spirits Awards:

Why are Spirits Awards useful to bartenders?

Spirits awards are useful to bartenders because they cut out a lot of the “noise.” There are tons of new liquor brands every year since the craft cocktail renaissance has become more mainstream. Spirits awards help career-professional bartenders by narrowing down which new items to taste and what foundational products to retaste.

What are the benefits to spirits brands to enter?

New brands can get in front of the people (us bartenders) who are on the front lines of starting new product buzz. If we like something you better believe we will talk about it and if we don’t well ….

Old standby brands can get on board too. Sometimes bar professionals are drawn to the newest thing on the market but it’s always nice to retaste and remember what makes some of our industry’s mainstay brands so quintessential.

What should other bartenders know about the Chilled 100 Bartender Seal of Approval?

Tasting all the brands blind truly leads to an unbiased opinion, if we like something it’s because it’s good not because it’s popular.

The intimate cabaret lounge features live musicians playing post-modern jukebox music while expert bartenders display their skills with signature libations. Shroomin

Ingredients:

  • 4 oz Gin
  • 1 1/2 oz Lemon juice
