7 Spicy Spirits to Try This Summer

By | Mixology News

When you think of a night out, your mind may jump to the usual fruity and floral drinks so often associated with cocktail trends. In case you didn’t know, spicy flavors are giving cocktails a much needed kick this summer.

Subtle notes of pepper and spice can enhance a drink and bring out natural flavors of the secondary ingredients. Spicy combinations can create an exciting palate experience with endless new twists on classics and modern cocktails! We’ve compiled a list of must try spicy spirits for your backbar this summer.

St. George Green Chile (40% ABV)

With its subtle spice profile, this spirit allows drinkers to add a little kick to their normal cocktail choices, without being overwhelmed with heat. This vodka is infused with a variety of California peppers, cilantro, and a bit of lime, creating a delicately spiced drink. It’s perfectly balanced with sweetness and spiciness. Try adding this delicious spirit to your next brunch in a Bloody Mary!

Hanson of Sonoma Organic Habanero (40% ABV)

This impressive vodka boasts a variety of seven different types of peppers, all sourced locally in California. This family-owned distillery makes 100% organic, gluten free, sugar free and zero carbohydrate spirits, and with a few different options to choose from, this habanero infused choice is a crowd favorite. It has all natural ingredients, no chili powders, or syrups, setting it aside from other brands. A little spicy, and a little sweet, this vodka is a perfect choice for a new twist on the classic Screwdriver!

Breckenridge Chili Chile Vodka (40% ABV)

This spicy chili flavored vodka was awarded gold in the 2016 World Spirits Competition. It’s combination of Turkish Chili and Pueblo Chile creates a subtle smoky taste. The Pueblo Chili’s are grown in Colorado where the Breckinridge Distillery is located. This spirit is balanced perfectly for sipping on its own, however, the Distillery itself has used this Vodka to create a spicy and smooth Chili Chile Vodka Margarita!

Dulce Vida Real Pineapple Jalapeno Tequila (35% ABV)

Dulce Vida has masterfully mixed sweet and spicy in this fruity Tequila. The fresh notes of pineapple mixed with blue agave and jalapeno peppers creates a smooth and tropical spicy drink. Mix with club soda and a squeeze of fresh lime and you have a cool and refreshing summer drink. This shelf staple will be a perfect upgrade to your home bar!

21 Seeds Cucumber Jalapeno, Blanco (35% ABV)

This award-winning Tequila offers drinkers a fresh and cool spirit, infused with real fruit juice. The recipient of many awards and accolades, this spirit is sure to add a kick to your drinks. The perfect mix of cool cucumber and fresh jalapeno, this tequila gives drinkers an incredible and versatile addition to cocktail options. Try their own recipe for a Spicy Margarita!

Ancho Reyes Verde Chile Liqueur (40% ABV)

This versatile spirit has a wide variety of tasting notes, lending to a well-balanced option for your next cocktail menu. This spirit is made by using fresh poblano chiles, still green when picked, fire roasted for hours creating a smoky and rich flavor profile. Many bartender reviews describe the spirit’s aftertaste as a lingering heat, without overwhelming the drinker. Try this spicy liquor in the distillery’s own recipe, the Ancho Reyes Spicy Verde Gimlet!

Ghost Tequila (40% ABV)

This exciting tequila has a unique history behind its creation. It was designed and made by bartenders who wanted to create a tequila that honored the culture of the drink while being innovative with new flavors profiles. This spirit uses bhut jolokia peppers, or ghost peppers, paired with agave creating a sweet drink, with a bite of heat. This tequila stands alone on its own but try adding it to your favorite Daiquiri for a spicy hot twist!

The Community Spirit Vodka Achieves B Corp Certification for New-Age Mindset

By | Mixology News

Sustainable spirits aren’t just about the sourcing of ingredients. It’s about the community that supports them. The Community Spirit Vodka is an exceptional example of that, so much so that it recently achieved its B Corp certification from B Lab, an established nonprofit network.

‘People Over Everything’ is the mindset behind this incredible new-age vodka’s success. For The Community Spirit Vodka, each bottle is an opportunity to empower the voices of those they work with, and beyond. “Through our brand, we are seeking to challenge the status quo by using our time, tools, and talent to elevate and amplify marginalized voices and communities,” says Camille Austen, Senior Director of Advocacy for Casa Lumbre Spirits. “Every case, bottle, and cocktail sold supports the efforts of unsung individuals and organizations giving back to their local communities.”

Casa Lumbre is a well-regarded global spirits company born and bred in Mexico. It focuses on farm-to-bottle products in Mexico and beyond.

The Community Spirit Vodka’s approach was a natural fit for B Corp Status, so much so it surpassed B Lab’s “Designed to Give” requirements—one of B Corp’s Impact Business Models that highlights companies dedicated to making significant charitable contributions. In 2022, Community Spirit Vodka donated 24% of its revenue to its partners. The brand was founded just a year before (in 2021.) Now, that’s dedication.

This level of dedication spans into The Community Spirit’s quality as well. It’s a top-shelf vodka, with a sexy label and an even sexier production process. This 100 percent American corn vodka is distilled five times with a special material—activated coconut carbon. This is a unique renewable resource that’s very Mother Earth-friendly. The vodka is also gluten-free and kosher.

A refreshing combination of quality and care, The Community Spirit Vodka calls for the spirit world to maintain an important standard. That also includes the social media world. “Every branded campaign, social post, or event is created with the specific intent to promote a community message or changemaker voice working to build a better tomorrow,” adds Austen.

As they say, “show, don’t tell.” The intent of The Community Spirit Vodka’s marketing is right there on its Instagram. Theo reels feed is full of videos featuring brilliant changemakers in the spirits industry. Of course, we do understand if you get distracted by their cocktail photos—this vodka can help make some fabulous drinks.

It’s clear that The Community Vodka was born future-forward. The company and its B Corp status achievement are reminders of the positive and powerful direction our beloved spirit industry can go. As Austen says, “Companies should prioritize people over everything in their business model, and as time goes on, we hope that more and more companies will use this same business model to succeed and thrive.”

5 Essential Cocktails for June 2023

By | Mixology News

Each month Chilled presents you with five essential cocktails based on our National Drink Day Calendar. Don’t forget to reference it so you can prepare for the upcoming holidays.

Summer has officially arrived, and we couldn’t be more ready to bring you cocktails all season. If you’re looking to add something special to your menu, one of these essential cocktails will be a perfect addition. Use this new season of fresh fruits and new trends as an opportunity to offer unique cocktails that will be savored.

Here are five essential cocktails for the month of June.

Fig & Olive

How simple would it be to make a dirty martini for National Olive Day (6/1) and call it a night? That wouldn’t be creative enough. Instead, celebrate the beautiful fruit (yes, it’s a fruit) with this blood orange olive oil cocktail. These days, olive oil is all the rage, so use this cocktail as an inspiration to create something unique and different to serve to your guests.

Strawberry Spritz Cocktail

Bubbly cocktails are a go-to in the summer. They’re light and refreshing for even the hottest days but strong enough to sip throughout the night. Celebrate National Bubbly Day on June 4 with this Strawberry Spritz Cocktail. Strawberries are officially in season, so there’s no better time to use the juicy fruit. The added orange juice brings the perfect amount of acidity to this sweet cocktail.

The Pale Paloma

Another summer favorite: Rosé. It’s light and elegant and tastes better when the sun is shining. For National Rosé Day (6/11), offer the Pale Paloma as a special. Spicy cocktails have been trending for months, so if you haven’t already jumped on this bandwagon, it’s time to giddy up. The jalapeno-agave syrup brings the sweet heat to this tequila and rosé cocktail.

Chocolate Fig Old Fashioned

Instead of serving up the classic bourbon cocktail on National Old Fashioned Day, switch things up with a Chocolate Fig Old Fashioned. Although the traditional version is loved for a good reason, there’s no harm in offering something with a little more depth. For the younger generations just starting to venture into the dark spirits category, a cocktail like this makes it less intimidating.

Pineapple Skies

End the month of June off with a bang by sipping this vanilla-bean-infused grenadine cocktail. For National Pineapple Day on June 27, enjoy something that highlights this golden fruit and all its glory. This cocktail speaks for itself in the beauty department, but its flavor profile will take you on a journey. Top it off with a chunk of brûléed pineapple to amplify that sweet vanilla flavor.
