Top 5 Baseball-Themed Cocktails Guaranteed To Win Every Game

By | Mixology News

Fans of the gridiron, the parquet court, the ice rink, and the pitch may erroneously disagree, but the grassy green outfield bordering the dusty tan diamond infield is where the sporting heart of America lives.

The first baseball game recognized by scholars saw the New York Nine pummel the Knickerbockers to a crushing defeat of 23 – 1 at a scrappy field in Hoboken, New Jersey on June 19th, 1846. Shortly after a surge in baseball popularity swept through New York City in the 1850’s, various journalists decided baseball was the national pastime. Few have disputed this crowning in the 170 plus years since.

A batter stepping up to the plate must consider the score, read the field and decide among many options of batting technique. Go for a solid base-hit, advancing the game while playing it safe? Try to bunt, a tricky move to pull o but a gamble loaded with the element of surprise for the opposing team? Or risk it all and swing for the fences with full power, leading to either a pop-up easy out or a glorious home run?

Whether you’re planning to host a game viewing party at your home or deciding what to order at your favorite sports bar, you’re faced with a similar roster of options as the batter approaching the box or the pitcher on the mound. Will you select a base of whiskey, gin, vodka, rum, or tequila for your cocktail?

Lucky for you, we’re here to guide you as your trusted third-base coach. We won’t tell you exactly what to do but we’ll present the full menu of choices for your consideration. Follow these recommendations for the top five baseball themed cocktails and we guarantee you won’t strike out.

As a bonus free-of-charge we’ve included five quotes from the legendary catcher, manager, coach, and philosopher Yogi Berra. Serve up any of these baseball-themed cocktails along with a Yogi quote and the odds are overwhelmingly in your favor to impress your friends and have a great time, regardless of either team’s score after nine innings.

“I never said most of the things I said.” – Yogi Berra

“A nickel ain’t worth a dime anymore.” – Yogi Berra

Special credit for the next-level preparation of this drink goes to Anita Schecter of the website hungrycouplenyc.com. In one of the earliest known and longest lasting examples of musical and branding cooperation, the unocial baseball anthem “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” – written in 1908 by Jack

Norworth and Albert Von Tilzer – includes the memorable request to “buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack, I don’t care if ever get back…” If you have the time to brew this caramel-coated cocktail per the specs outlined here, it’s a safe bet you’ll be feeling equally carefree. Just don’t forget to brush your teeth afterward… Enjoy!

  • 2 oz. Cracker Jack bourbon

  • 1 1/2 oz. whole milk

  2. Secure the lid tightly and let sit for three days.
  3. Shake the sealed jar several times each of the three days.
  4. On the fourth day strain the candy out from the bourbon.
  5. Filter through a cheesecloth to remove extra sediment.
  6. Pour the above measurements of candy-soaked bourbon, buttershots and milk into ice-filled cocktail glasses, stir and serve.

Hey Bartenders, Enter Cardenxe’s Annual Bartender Contest and Get Creative with Sotol!

By | Mixology News

Hey bartenders, enter Cardenxe’s annual bartender contest now and get creative with Sotol! Deadline April 15th.

[RECAP] & [FULL VIDEO]

This May 29th, you are invited to express the poetry of this mystical Mexican spirit with Cardenxe’s Annual Bartender Contest.

Cardenxe is a voyage in a bottle. It’s a sotol focused on reflecting its roots—the land and history of its home in Northern Mexico—transporting you there through every sip. “Cardenxe is an artisanal, terroir-driven sotol at the intersection of art and music, produced in the North of Mexico,” says Luigi Ambrosi, co-founder of Cardenxe. “We aim to offer a layered gastronomic experience with our different sotol expressions revealing the identity of their origin and the signature personality of their production style.”

Through Cardenxe’s Annual Bartender Contest, bartenders can dive deep into sotol’s identity—a spirit defined by its distinct earthiness, a flavor profile distinctly defined by where it originates. While other famous Mexican spirits come from the agave plant, sotol comes from Dasylirion, a desert shrub plant that is in fact part of the asparagacea family. This plant grows wild in the regions of Chihuahua, Durango, and Coahuila.

In the words of Ambrosi, to honor the anniversary of Cardenxe and the history of sotol, tradition calls for a good old Mexican standoff. In the bar industry’s case, that means an exhilarating bartender’s contest.

This competition brings together skilled bartenders with one objective: to get creative with sotol. Every year has a theme. Last year, it was ‘Curados’ the Chihuahan custom of infusing sotol. This year, it’s all about terroir.

No, terroir isn’t just for wine. Sotol’s flavor profile is heavily influenced by where the Dasylirion plant grows. This year’s competition theme, Tomando Tierra, offers an opportunity for bartenders to experiment with each of the three Cardenxe Sotol’s expressions through innovative and original cocktails, highlighting a sense of place.

Don’t miss an opportunity to take part in Cardenxe’s Annual Bartender Contest, with sign-ups open until April 15th and the official competition taking place on May 29th in New York City.

Get Ready for Martini Week! Coming May 20th – May 26th

By | Mixology News

Are you ready for Martini Week, May 20th to 26th?

No matter if you like it dry or dirty, shaken or stirred, it’s your week to celebrate.

The Martini. It’s a cocktail just as international as its admirers, and just as sexy as some too (Sean Connery in Goldfinger anyone?) Its legacy stands out from the cocktail crowd. It’s classy, yet a chameleon. The Martini has taken on many faces and gone many places over the years, beyond Bond’s vodka Martini.

But when did all the Martini madness begin? Junipero Gin is taking us back to the start, with a full week to honor the Martini’s legacy.

“As a symbol of San Francisco’s eccentricity and Junipero’s pioneering spirit, Martini Week embodies the freedom to enjoy Martinis in any preferred style, reflecting the diverse tastes of its host cities,” says Page Stoup, Senior Brand Manager, Hotaling and Co.

Junipero has hosted Martini Week in the Bay Area since it began three years ago—only a blip in time compared to the lifetime of a Martini. “A reigning theory ties the Martini’s origins directly to the mid-1800s Gold Rush in Northern California.”

Since the inception of Martini Week, it’s gained recognition nationwide, with cities from Sacramento to Atlanta joining in to celebrate this iconic cocktail. “Its versatility is what allows the Martini to find its way onto menus and home bars constantly,” says Page. “The art of ordering a Martini is uniquely individual, much like this eccentric city that we call home.”

However, Martini Week is here to celebrate more than a magical elixir. It’s also to cherish the community around it. Junipero’s week-long initiative is a medium to put our love of Martinis into making a difference. In San Francisco, restaurants and bars participating in Martini Week that get creative with their Martini recipes will open an opportunity to support local charities. For every Martini sold its accounts, Junipero Gin will donate $2 to The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and other likeminded local organizations.

We are excited to see what’s to come with Martini Week, as Junipero gin and bartenders across the nation prep to celebrate one of the most legendary cocktails in history.

So, get your Martini recipes ready folks. Martini Week is just around the corner.

Winemaker Stephanie Rivin’s Journey from California to Bordeaux with French Blue Wine

By | Mixology News

Stephanie Rivin embarked on her journey into the world of wine in 2008 with her employment at a quaint, family-operated winery nestled in Anderson Valley, Northern California.

The winery was so small that its tasting room shared the same space with winemaking, granting Stephanie direct access to the cellar. Day by day, her fascination with the intricacies of winemaking grew. Eager to delve deeper, she enrolled as a harvest intern under the guidance of knowledgeable mentors who taught her the rationale behind each step in the winemaking process.

Stephanie diverged from the conventional path of winemaking education via university courses. Instead, her journey consisted of hands-on learning under the mentorship of seasoned masters in the field. Stephanie’s trajectory took a turn in 2012 when she, along with her husband and their three-year-old daughter, visited Bordeaux, France for the first time and instantly fell in love with it. While Stephanie was already involved in winemaking in California, the allure of Bordeaux led her to expand her ventures by creating French Blue.

However, after juggling both California and French winemaking for a few years, the demands began to strain her work-life balance. It became evident to Stephanie where she truly wanted to be. Aware of her husband’s shared passion for Bordeaux, she proposed moving there, and he jumped at the opportunity. In 2018 Stephanie, her husband, and their children relocated to France.

With the creation of French Blue Wine, Stephanie set out to build a bridge between two worlds: America and Bordeaux.

“Bordeaux is a very traditional culture. People’s lives are steeped in winemaking, and it’s ingrained into their soul. It’s just a part of who they are. Whereas Americans, we kind of have our own way of doing things. We’re innovative, spirited, and free. With French Blue you get a bit of Bordeaux winemaking know-how, mixed with American rock and roll, anything goes. So, that’s what I wanted French Blue to be; something that speaks of both cultures and is a way for people to travel to Bordeaux from the comfort of their own homes.”

When naming French Blue, Stephanie wanted it to resonate with France’s identity.

“The color blue has always been associated with France. It was the royal color back when there was a monarchy, and now all the French national sports teams are nicknamed the ‘Blues.’ You’ve got the bright blue sky, you’ve got the blue sea, and it just encapsulates the spirit of France. Voila! – French Blue. Something easy to remember and it communicates the approachable and fun vibe to the wine.”

French Blue Wine offers a diverse selection, including Rosé, White, Red, and Sparkling Crémant. The brand prides itself on versatility, catering to various occasions. Stephanie emphasizes pairing the wine with the moment, whether it’s enjoying a casual gathering with friends or whipping up cocktails at a bar. She describes the wines as fun and accessible, making them a popular choice for enjoyable drinks.

“French Blue wines are ideal for a drawn-out lunch, a gathering of friends, or reading by the water on a hot day. It gives you the feeling of the best kind of Sunday afternoon: relaxed, bright, and cheerful.”

About Chinola® Fresh Fruit Liqueurs

After discovering the magic of the sacred Dominican passion fruit, Chinola’s journey began in 2014 with the creation of the world’s first vine to bottle fresh fruit liqueur that’s shelf stable. Chinola was born from a creative collaboration of hospitality experts, spirit industry professionals, and a multi-generational master blender. Locally referred to as chinola (chee-noh-lah), their dream was to create an old-world style liqueur that embodied the taste and aroma of fresh passion fruit. Chinola Passion Fruit Liqueur has gone on to become an award winning addition to the world’s best bars and a staple in home bars.

With year over year growth, their original spirit has spawned the second jewel in their collection: Chinola Mango Liqueur. Chinola Passion Fruit Liqueur and Chinola Mango Liqueur are natural, low ABV liqueurs made from 100% fresh fruit and neutral cane spirit with no artificial additives. With origins in the Samaná Peninsula, Chinola Fresh Fruit Liqueurs are produced in the Dominican Republic with a commitment to authenticity and eco-friendly practices from farm to bottle. Chinola Passion Fruit liqueur is available in 33 states throughout the United States and 12 countries, including Australia, the United Kingdom, with markets in the Caribbean and parts of Europe.
