Why This Bourbon is Top of Chilled’s Gift Giving List This Holiday

By | Mixology News

Trail’s End 10-Year Bourbon carries the confidence of a whiskey that has truly earned its place.

It begins in Kentucky with a decade of aging in charred new American oak, then heads west along the historic Lewis and Clark route to Oregon. This journey gives the bourbon its name and its soul. In Hood River, it undergoes a second maturation in Oregon Garryana oak, a regional wood that Clear Creek Distillery helped pioneer for spirits. The finishing process does not cover the bourbon’s character. Instead, it heightens what is already present, deepening caramel, strengthening spice, and sharpening citrus.

For bartenders, Trail’s End 10-Year is a quiet standout. It shines neat or with a single cube, where the 105 proof feels surprisingly smooth and refined. It also performs beautifully in cocktails, especially an Old Fashioned or a fat washed Old Fashioned, where its richness turns a familiar drink into something memorable.

On the nose, the bourbon opens with caramel, vanilla, cherry, and roasted corn complemented by warm notes of pine and high desert moss. Hints of bitter orange and lilac add subtle lift. The palate offers both power and grace, moving from bright citrus to dark wood and spice without being overly harsh.

Trail’s End is designed for people who enjoy sharing a good bottle rather than collecting one. It suits porch conversations, casual toasts, and any moment that marks the end of a day well lived. Its roots in Oregon include a long partnership with Oregon Barrel Works, where Garryana oak is sourced from local farms that participate in community forestry programs and annual sapling planting. First time drinkers should linger over the aroma, then enjoy a flavor journey that is both robust and welcoming.

Top Gifts for the Whiskey Lover in Your Life

By | Mixology News

Whiskey lovers are some of the easiest people to shop for and also somehow the hardest.

They know what they like, they have opinions, and they have likely tried the staples already. That is why this curated lineup pulls directly from Chilled’s 2025 Holiday Gift Guide and goes beyond the usual bottles, offering surprises, seasonal favorites, and elevated essentials they will genuinely appreciate.

For the Everyday Whiskey Drinker

Big Easy Whiskey

A solid, everyday sipper is the backbone of any whiskey lover’s collection. Big Easy leans into warm notes of vanilla, caramel, and soft oak with a subtle sweetness that makes it easygoing from start to finish. A gentle mid-palate spice adds structure without ever overwhelming the drinker. Smooth, approachable, and versatile, it shines in classic cocktails like Old Fashioneds and Whiskey Sours or simply poured neat at the end of the day.

Jameson Black Barrel

Even seasoned whiskey fans appreciate a bartender-approved classic. Double-charred bourbon barrels give Black Barrel deeper character than traditional Jameson, with notes of butterscotch, baking spice, charred oak, and caramelized sugar layered over its signature triple-distilled smoothness. Big flavor, cocktail versatility, and name recognition make this a “can’t miss” holiday gift.

For the Collector

Smokeye Hill Barrel Proof Rye

A standout for any whiskey collector, this limited-edition release marks Smokeye Hill’s first-ever rye, and the first rye on the market made with heirloom blue corn. With fewer than 1,400 cases produced, it’s a rare bottle with serious bragging rights. At barrel proof, it delivers a bold, full-bodied profile built from a proprietary four-grain mash bill of rye, heirloom blue corn, yellow corn, and malted barley. From the same team behind the Barrel Proof Bourbon that earned Bourbon of the Year at the 2024 ASCOTs, this rye brings innovation, intensity, and collector-worthy appeal to any holiday whiskey lineup.

Indri Dru

For the whiskey drinker who’s tried everything, this award-winning Indian single malt offers something genuinely new. At cask strength, it delivers bold notes of dried fruit, honey, dark chocolate, and warm spice, intensified by India’s fast-aging climate. Its rising global reputation, limited availability, and role in spotlighting Indian single malt make it a standout for collectors. Striking packaging and a modern profile seal its place on any serious whiskey shelf.

For the Holiday Host

Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey Eggnog

This one always brings the fun. Skrewball’s Peanut Butter Whiskey Eggnog is festive, indulgent, and impossible not to love; a creamy holiday treat guests will ask about instantly. The nutty whiskey blends seamlessly with spiced eggnog for a dessert-like sip that tastes like the season. Perfect for anyone who loves playful riffs or being the person who shows up with the cool bottle.

Crown Royal Salted Caramel

A returning seasonal favorite, Crown Royal Salted Caramel nails that nostalgic holiday sweetness. Silky caramel meets a touch of salt for a flavor that’s festive without going overboard. It excels in cozy cocktails—spiked cider, caramel White Russians, simple pours over ice—and is an easy win for holiday hosts or dessert-whiskey lovers.

For the Whiskey + Dessert Lover

Kahlúa Dunkin’ Caramel Swirl Cream Liqueur

Okay, it’s not a whiskey… but it’s great with whiskey! This cream liqueur blends caramel, coffee, and dessert richness into a holiday-ready bottle that pairs beautifully with bourbon, Irish whiskey, and flavored whiskies. Perfect for after-dinner drinks, spiked coffee, or chilled nightcaps, it’s a can’t-miss stocking stuffer for anyone who loves sweet, cozy cocktail moments.

For the Home Bartender

Middleton Mixology SmokeTop Bundle

Whiskey drinkers love ritual, and the SmokeTop Bundle turns a simple pour into a smoky, sensory experience. The kit fits neatly over a rocks glass and infuses spirits with aromatic smoke in seconds, letting home bartenders recreate cocktail-bar drama. Perfect for Old Fashioned and Manhattan fans, it adds artistry, theater, and a touch of luxury to every drink.

For the Aesthetic Drinker

North Drinkware Mountain Whiskey Glasses

These mountain-inspired glasses elevate gifting with thoughtful design. Each features a sculpted 3D mountain rising from the base, turning the glass into functional art. They feel substantial, look stunning on a bar cart, and offer a standout sipping experience whiskey lovers won’t get from standard glassware. It’s the kind of gift they’ll use all year and proudly display long after the holidays.

Connections, Local Flavors, and Luxurious Experiences Lead the 2026 Bacardi Cocktail Trends Report

By | Mixology News

Bacardi Limited has released its seventh annual Bacardi Cocktail Trends Report, produced in partnership with The Future Laboratory (TFL).

The 2026 edition identifies five defining trends that are set to shape cocktail culture and the spirits landscape in the year ahead. Drawing on Bacardi-led and third-party research, consumer surveys, bartender insights, and TFL’s trend forecasting, the report uncovers the forces influencing flavor innovation, evolving drinking behaviors, and the rise of more intentional, experience-driven cocktails. It also spotlights the drinks expected to dominate 2026, along with key trends among younger Legal Drinking Age (LDA) consumers.

“Gen Z isn’t drinking less, they’re simply drinking earlier, lighter, and with more intention,” says Sean Kerry, Vice President for Global On-Trade for Bacardi.

“Around the world, we’re seeing a move towards more meaningful drinking moments whether that means in-person get-togethers with friends, discovering flavors rooted in local culture, or embracing new forms of creative expression through cocktails.”

“Consumers are moving from curating experiences to cultivating connections. The pendulum has swung from digital convenience to human creativity, and the drinks industry sits at the center of that shift,” says Martin Raymond, Co-Founder of The Future Laboratory.

“In 2026, value will be defined not by scarcity or status, but by depth: the provenance of ingredients, the stories behind serves, and the ability to transform a moment into meaning.”

Here are the macro-trends defining the spirits industry in 2026:

1. Afternoon Society

Happy hour is having a glow-up as earlier-day sipping replaces the old late-night grind. “Daycaps,” those late-afternoon cocktails that wrap up the workday, are becoming the new mini-celebration. Consumers across markets are heading out earlier to drink, snack, and unwind, with younger LDA drinkers setting the tone. According to the Bacardi Global Consumer Survey, 51% of younger drinkers in France and 34% in the U.S. are embracing earlier evenings. Spritz culture, mood-based cocktails, and petite serves are shaping daytime drinking in a way that fits real life. It’s about creating small, joyful moments that match your energy and your schedule.

2. Rewilding Connection

With so much of life happening through screens, drinkers are craving experiences that feel real again. Eighty-four percent of consumers say technology has made interactions feel less personal, and bars are responding with moments that encourage presence. Screen-free spaces, shared serves, analog entertainment, and small rituals are helping spark actual conversation. Whether it’s martini flights or intimate micro-gatherings, “Rewilding Connection” is about slowing down, being in the moment, and rediscovering what makes sharing a cocktail special.

3. New Localogy

As transparency and sourcing reshape the industry, bars are turning into labs of regional flavor. This trend isn’t about replacing global spirits but amplifying them with what’s grown close to home. Micro-farms, local ecosystems, seasonal garnishes, and culinary science are giving cocktails a deeper sense of place. Consumers want to know the story behind what’s in their glass, with 77% checking ingredient origins. “New Localogy” caters to that curiosity by creating serves rooted in terroir, technique, and the landscape they come from.

4. The Liquid Experience IP

Cocktails have evolved beyond the glass and into full lifestyle expressions. Gen Z and millennials gravitate toward brands that feel culturally connected, and 70% of people say emotional engagement drives loyalty. Bars and brands are responding with immersive cocktail worlds: playlist pairings, sensory details, traveling pop-ups, character-inspired serves, and design elements pulled from fashion, music, travel, and sport. In 2026, ordering a cocktail feels more like joining a creative universe than simply choosing a drink.

5. More-is-more Mixology

Minimalism had its moment, but maximalism is officially back behind the bar. Edible pearls, metallic finishes, fire-kissed garnishes, layered flavors, and dramatic glassware are taking center stage. According to the Bacardi survey, 76% of drinkers want heightened, memorable experiences. Bars from Dubai to Las Vegas are showing that bold design and joyful spectacle are in demand. In a world craving fun and a little drama, people don’t just want a cocktail. They want a moment.

Globally, the top 10 cocktails in 2026 will be:

  1. Margarita
  2. Mojito
  3. Piña Colada
  4. Rum and Coke®
  5. Whisky and Coke®
  6. Spritz
  7. Vodka Lemonade
  8. Vodka Soda
  9. Gin & Tonic
  10. Dry Martini Cocktail

1800 Tequila Taste Collective’s Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Jimenez Offers Advice on Adding Culture and Community to Every Cocktail

By | Mixology News

There’s no bar without community.

For Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Jimenez—the creative mind behind Superbueno, currently ranked #2 on North America’s 50 Best Bars—bartending has always been about something deeper than recipes, ratios, or precision—it’s about people and their stories. Jimenez has built his reputation on being real, weaving culture and community into every cocktail behind every bar.

“For me, it’s always about leaning into tradition and finding a storyline that helps me connect the cocktail to a culinary tradition, a ritual, or popular beliefs in Mexican culture,” Jimenez says. That’s the heart of his process: begin with meaning, then work backward to determine what style of drink would best express that cultural touchstone. “I start with the memory, moment, or ingredient I want to convey and then work from there on what style of drink would best express that.”

But as much as he respects narrative-driven cocktails, Jimenez believes that hospitality is the real craft.

“It’s making people feel at home and welcomed at your bar,” he notes.

“Giving people a sense of belonging. They should feel like they’ve been coming for years, even if it’s their first visit.”

This philosophy is what makes Jimenez a natural fit for 1800 Tequila’s Taste Collective, a program that blends flavor science, creativity, culture, and emotional connection—and gives bartenders the tools to create better cocktails and better communities.

“Creating The Taste Collective is a testament to the values of community and innovation,” he says. “It allows me to look at 1800 Tequila and other products through a different lens that helps in our staff education at the bar.”

For Jimenez, The Taste Collective is more than an educational program, it’s a platform that mirrors what great bartending is all about: being your authentic self. “You’ll find a story that is truer to yourself and unique to you than trying to replicate what others may be doing worldwide,” says Jimenez. He insists bartenders embrace every element of their origins and journey—no one else’s.

The Taste Collective encourages bartenders to draw from their own identify—something he champions fiercely. “I tell them to embrace who they are, where they came from, their journey, every element of their lives,” he says.

Working alongside flavor scientist Dr. Arielle Johnson and chef Ana Castro has pushed that idea even further. “This has been a fun experience, especially getting to learn the science behind flavor from Dr. Arielle Johnson and collaborate with my good friend Chef Ana Castro,” he shares.

“It’s allowed me to travel to different cities, engage with bartender communities, and see how diverse our bartending community truly is.”

In other words, The Taste Collective doesn’t just teach it connects—the way Jimenez believes bartending should.

Establishing a genuine community requires more than just good intentions, though. “Go outside your comfort zone and focus on the one area of your bar or restaurant you feel the most uncomfortable or unskilled and work on that,” he says. “You need to create a community that goes beyond one that encourages diversity and inclusivity—you’ve got to support and embrace the ideas that are different from yours,” adds Jimenez.

Carrying the sincerity in these beliefs, according to Jimenez, is what will make change. Aka, you’ve got to really believe in it. “Be a champion of your community,” he insists. “Follow your network and take your job seriously, but with a touch of fun along the way. Be sincere with these beliefs and that sincerity is what creates a community that lasts.”

This sense of cultural pride while empowering bartenders to elevate their craft, share their unique stories, and make a lasting impact is exactly what The Taste Collective celebrates.

Stranahan’s Snowflake Redcloud Peak Named Best in Class at 2025 SFWSC

By | Mixology News

Stranahan’s®, the country’s leading American single malt whiskey, has once again taken top honors at the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, earning Best in Class American Single Malt Whiskey for its limited-edition Snowflake Redcloud Peak.

The win marks the second year in a row the brand has claimed the category’s highest accolade, following last year’s victory with Stranahan’s Original—further cementing its position as the most-awarded American single malt.

A cult-favorite winter release since 2011, Snowflake is known for its rare, globally sourced cask finishes and its fiercely loyal fanbase, many of whom camp outside the Denver distillery each December to secure one of the few bottles available. True to its philosophy that no two Snowflakes are alike, Redcloud Peak delivers an entirely new expression crafted by Head Blender Justin Aden. Influenced by casks from Spain, Hungary, and the American bourbon belt, the 94-proof release offers layers of toffee, candied nectarine, smoked honey, praline, raspberries, and maraschino, finishing round and subtly sweet.

This latest accolade also arrives at a pivotal moment for the category: American single malt was recently recognized by the U.S. government as an official, legally defined whiskey style—the first new category classification in more than half a century.

“To be named Best American Single Malt by some of the most discerning palates in the industry is an extraordinary honor. This recognition affirms not only the work we do at Stranahan’s, but also the promise and emerging presence of the American single malt category on the world stage,” said Stranahan’s Head Blender, Justin Aden.

“I’ve had the privilege of building on Stranahan’s singular recipe, perfected over more than 21 years, and exploring its potential through longer maturation and an expanded repertoire of cask finishes. Our Snowflake expressions invite bold exploration in the service of creating unique and wonderfully expressive whiskeys that can challenge the finest single malts from around the world.”

Stranahan’s Snowflake Redcloud Peak leads a year of remarkable wins for the brand. Recognized at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, it was part of a portfolio sweep, with every Stranahan’s core and limited-release whiskey earning Gold or Double Gold medals. This milestone adds to more than 100 awards the brand has collected in 2025 alone, solidifying its leadership in American single malt as the #1 most awarded. Other notable wins this year include:

  • Best American Single Malt Whiskey by the Beverage Testing Institute – Stranahan’s American Single Malt Whiskey: Mountain Angel 10-Year-Old
  • Best of Show at the Denver International Spirits Competition – Stranahan’s American Single Malt Whiskey: Blue Peak
  • 1st Place Best Single Malt 10 Year and Older Whiskey at the International Whiskey Competition – Stranahan’s American Single Malt Whiskey: Mountain Angel 10-Year-Old
  • American Single Malt Whiskey of the Year at the Bartender Spirit Awards – Stranahan’s American Single Malt Whiskey: Original
  • Best American Single Malt Whiskey at the ADI Competition – Stranahan’s American Single Malt Whiskey: Mountain Angel 10-Year-Old
  • Best Single Malt Whiskey at the 2025 Los Angeles Invitational Wine and Spirits Challenge – Stranahan’s American Single Malt Whiskey: Mountain Angel 10-Year-Old

Stranahan’s is gearing up to launch its next Snowflake Release this year on December 6. Fans can sign up to learn more at stranahans.com/events/snowflake.
